I really love craft swaps. Like, really love them. I would enter them all if I had limitless time and money! But, I don’t, so I try to pick only ones that I genuinely love and have time for. And when the #GalentinesDaySwap2017 came up, I knew I had to sign up. I’m all about women’s rights, empowering ladies, and honoring all things female, so it was a total no-brainer to enter this swap!
So what is Galentine’s Day, exactly? I think Leslie Knope from the tv show, Parks and Recreation, sums it up pretty good:
“Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, Leslie Knope and her lady friends leave their husbands and their boyfriends at home and just kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”
Yes, it’s a made up holiday, but isn’t Valentine’s Day, too? It’s just another way to bring positivity and adoration to your main gals, and I think we could all use some of that right about meow.
Periodically throughout a swap, there are check-ins where you post an update on your progress for the craft you’re creating for your partner. This lets your swap host know that you’re actually working towards your goal of co
mpleting your project and not just flaking out. Too many times, people have sent a swap package out only to never receive one in return and ‘angels’ are needed to save the day. So this is my check in!
I created 3 separate designs myself using Picmonkey (I love that site!) and had it sent out to Spoonflower to print up some fabric. I was a little unsure of how it would come out, but I’m really pleased with the overall design. “Ovaries before Brovaries” and “Uteruses before Duderuses” is how Ms. Knope explains the day in a fun way. The waffles are an homage to her most favorite food to eat and to “kick it breakfast style.”
What to make?
I have another confession: I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to make! I was just so excited to create the fabric that I’m totally at a loss for what to actually create with it. Does that ever happen to you?
I was thinking a Sew Together Bag or maybe some nesting Open Wide Pouches? I kinda love them by themselves and was thinking of putting them in a few hoops to hang proudly on a wall? Gah! So many choices! Follow me on Instagram to see what I eventually figure out!
Happy Galentine’s Day to YOU, you poetic and noble land mermaid! How will you be celebrating? What would YOU make with these fabrics?
